Here I go...plunging into the Blogger waters!

As I finished a devotional this morning by Chris Tiegreen titled "Our Purpose", I was met face to face with the sole purpose of my life...to bring glory to God! While I'm familiar with 1 Corinthians 10:31, which reads: Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God, I don't think it ever penetrated my heart with the depth it did today. Through this Blog I will set out on a quest to discover not only ways my life can bring glory to God, but also I hope to grapple with the other goals my life takes on - bringing them all under Christ's authority so that truly all that is left is a life dedicate to bringing God glory!

Living in the world but not being of it is not an easy task! I believe God knew long ago the struggles with our self that we would encounter after the fall of mankind that took place in the Garden of Eden. The wonderful news is that God has provided the way out of the self muck we are all born into because of that fatal temptation - through Christ who is the most extreme example of bringing glory to God.

"If we are single-minded about our pursuits, we are more likely to accomplish them," writes Chris Tiegreen. "Paul was single-minded about the glory of God. He was focused on God and everything else took a backseat. That's also the attitude Paul urged his fellow believers to have. The Corinthians (like us) had gotten off track with a number of distractions - immorality, division, idolatry, and more. In the middle of dealing with it all Paul gave this one command: 'Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God.' Following this mandate would solve a lot of problems we have in our discipleship. Instead of figuring out which freedoms we can get away with and which are actually sinful; instead of arguing with God over His will for our lives; instead of picking and choosing whom we will exhibit grace toward; we can always be guided by this one principle: If it gives God glory, it's probably worthwhile. If it doesn't, it certainly isn't."

I need this guiding principle in my life. I believe it will be the answer to all my struggles in this life, and to your's as well. I set out today in pursuit of being consumed with the driving passion to bring glory to God. I realize my life will be defined by what I set my heart on...Holy Spirit, make bringing glory to God my true heartbeat.
